There is truly nothing like the beautiful Sleepy Bear Dunes with its striking natural scenery and unmatched sparkling blue lakes! Nestled here is Lake Michigan, which spans 65 miles of shoreline, offering plenty of beaches for anyone to indulge in. Here, you can take a refreshing dip into the crystal-clear water, bathe under the sun, build sandcastles with the kids, and explore the dunes. Lake Michigan, as well as the Big and Little Glen lakes, are attractive spots for taking the boat out with accessible public boat launches available.

No boat? No problem! You can visit On The Narrows or visit online to schedule your perfect rental from the fleet of beautiful and powerful boats available, allowing anyone to easily glide over the spectacular lakes! You can also inquire about jet skis and kayaks!

If you prefer kayaking or canoeing, you can visit Crystal River Outfitters to see about the group trips you can take. These canoe/kayak trips are an estimated 2-3 hour long, 4.5 mile trek along the beautiful Crystal River, with its winding trail and gentle currents, and stops at the charming village of Glen Arbor. This trail also allows you to potentially view sightings of Sleeping Bear Dunes’ animal residents and even more natural scenery. This is ideal for families, groups, or individuals1

One of the most popular biking trails you can take here is the Sleeping Bear Dunes Heritage Trail. This 22-mile long path goes from Empire through Glen Haven and Glen Arbor. While many visitors opt to bike through this trail,  others choose to walk, run, or even ski through the wintertime. There are plenty of starting to points to start the trail from, and you can go part of the way or trek the entire trail! You will find yourself going through cool, wooded areas, sandy dunes, public streets with heavy traffic, as well as sloped hills. If you are looking to take a leisurely bike drive through Sleeping Bear Dunes’ serenity, this is the perfect trail for you! If you find that you can’t bring your own bike with you, or if you don’t own one, you can still find places to rent bikes here! Check out The Cyclery at Crystal River Outfitters for all your bike needs and more!

If you prefer hiking by foot, you will certainly enjoy other trails offered at Sleeping Bear! Here are some trails you can hike by foot on.

     — Old Indian Trail

     — Platte Plains Trail

     — Empire Bluff Trail

     — Alligator Trail Hill

     — Pyramid Point Trail

     — Bayview Trail

Looking to enrich your mind? Check out the Sleeping Bear Point Coast Guard Station Maritime Museum, located in Glen Haven. This museum features exhibits on the historical U.S. Coast Guard as well as the Great Lakes shipping history, often even reenacting the use of the Lyle Gun, which helped rescue ships in distress from 400 yards away from the shore. This museum is child-friendly, making it perfect for homeschooled families, school groups, day camp trips, and more!

Here at Sleeping Bear Dunes, you can bring your family, friends, or group to an exciting retreat filled with all the activities that everyone can enjoy!
